Taping and our policy
Agents of Good Roots actively encourages
taping and trading of our live shows. We
create our music for you and want to you to
be able to share performances that you
enjoy with others. Please, do come out to
see us and record our shows. Before you
show up, though, please go over the
information below, so the night can go as
smoothly as possible for everyone:
1.Show up with your tape deck at least
30 minutes before the show starts.
Home decks are OK, however, we
might not always be able to provide
you with power.
2.If there are tapers set up near the
soundboard already, talk to them
about setting up your deck.
3.Otherwise, talk to our soundman Phil about getting a soundboard feed and power.
Soundboard patches will be given on a first-come, first-served basis at the
availability of the production crew. Be patient before a show, Phil can be very
4.Phil does not have any cables; you need to bring your own. For most boards, you
will need RCA cables and 2 mono 1/4 inch to RCA plugs. It is recommended that you
bring as many different wire and coupling combinations as possible to prepare for
unusual circumstances and to aid others.
5.Bring your own power strip, grounded extension cord, flashlight, extra cables, blank
tapes, etc. We won't be able to lend you anything.
6.Remember, the music from the soundboard is mixed to make the room sound good,
not your tapes. Sometimes instruments have to be very high, or very low in the
soundboard mix to make it sound good for the room.
7.If you want, you can bring your own audience microphones. Please talk to Phil, so he
can show you where to set them up.
While we try to play places where taping is permitted, some venues may not allow you to
bring your equipment in the door. We will make every effort possible to convince the
people running the venue to allow your equipment in, but please realize they have the final
Please note that while we encourage recording of our shows on any medium (DAT,
MiniDisc, Analog Tape, Video Tape, etc.), taping is permitted at shows for personal,
non-commercial, home use only. We will vigorously pursue action against any so-called
"bootleg CD manufacturers" who attempt to take financial advantage of our fans and to
profit illegally from our work.
Trading of live tapes has been a major component of our growth over the years, and we
want to continue to offer this option to our fans. Please do your best to stay out of the
way of working crew at all venues so that the venues will continue to permit our fans to
tape shows. Also, please feel free to ask questions of, and make comments to, the band
or crew; but do understand that the events leading up to a performance can make us very
Good luck we look forward to seeing you at the shows, and having lots of crispy
recordings in circulation to all our fans!
